ACLS and BLS (CPR) Renewal Course

HealthAlliance Employees will get preferred seating for this class.   If seats fill up, you may need to be rescheduled. 

 Effective January 1, 2023, all ACLS Renewal courses will be the ACLS and BLS (CPR) Renewal Course.

This course is designed for advanced-level providers, for example, RNs, RTs, MDs, etc.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is an advanced, instructor-led  Renewal Course designed specifically for those with a current (non-lapsed) American Heart Association ACLS Provider Card.  If you have a current, non-lapsed BLS (CPR) for Healthcare Provider card, your BLS for Healthcare Provider card will also be renewed.  A Current BLS (CPR) Card is NOT required for this class. (Per the AHA, there is no grace period).  

This course highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care, and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented. Successful course completion includes demonstrating skills competency in all learning stations and passing the CPR and AED skills test, a bag-mask ventilation skills test, a Megacode test, and a written exam. Upon successful completion, students receive an ACLS Provider card, valid for two years. ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units.

This class will also incorporate The Basic Life Support (BLS) Classroom Renewal Course, for those with a current BLS (CPR) for Healthcare Provider card. In this course, students will refresh their ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

The ASLS Online: In-Hospital Provider Course aims to educate healthcare professionals on the identification, evaluation, and management of patients with stroke. This course is intended for healthcare providers who care for patients with stroke or work in settings with patients who are at risk for stroke. This course meets the education requirements for Stroke Center Certification. At the completion of this online course, learners will be able to:

• Describe why early treatment of stroke may result in a marked reduction in risk of disability

• Identify the 5 main stroke syndromes and relate them to pathophysiology and clinical signs

• Perform a focused evaluation to identify stroke and its location and assess its severity

• Define the initial management of patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes

• Explain the importance of an organized approach to treating stroke patients for improved patient outcomes

• Describe the management of goals for acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage

• Outline post-acute care management: supportive medical care, rehabilitation, and discharge planning for stroke patients

• Discuss the etiologic evaluation and secondary stroke prevention for stroke patients

Foundation in 12 Lead ECG Acquisition and Interpretation

Program goals: The overall goal of this program is to provide the students with a review of the fundamentals of 12 lead ECG interpretations with the intent to give the provider the skills necessary to interpret 12 Lead ECG's. It will do this by reviewing the foundations of ECG analysis of 12 lead ECG.

Intended audience: The intended audience is Paramedics, ED/ICU/Progressive Care RNs, PAs, and non-cardiologist MDs who will need to rapidly triage, assess, and treat emergency and critical care patients concerning ECG analysis.

Prerequisites: This class is for PCAs/EMTs/Nurses/Paramedics/Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants/Physicians.

Students shall have a basic understanding of 3 or 4 Lead ECG Interpretation. 

This shall be documented by completing HealthAlliance Clinton Hospital's Basic Coronary Care (BCC) class or equivalent.  This class can be scheduled in eLearning at https://www.healthstream.com/HSAPP/CoursePreEnrollment?courseId=8bf2c49d-f24c-e111-8af1-001517135401&courseVersion=1.

Pre-class work required: The students will be given a digital version of the slides to look at and the students are expected to send the instructor any questions prior to the start of class.

Testing and exams: The students MUST be active participants in the class by actively posing and answering questions posed by the instructor. There is an expectation that the students will become active participants in the case study analysis(s). Due to the length and complexity of this program, no written examination is required and successful completion of the student is at the discretion of the instructor based on the above criteria.

HeartCode ACLS (Online and Skills Testing)

HeartCode® ACLS offers a flexible training option for busy healthcare professionals. The online cognitive portion (Part1) allows students to complete learning at their own pace and convenience. To help students gain confidence in performing skills, Part 1 is combined with a hands-on skills session (Part2) where students have the opportunity for one-on-one practice time with an American Heart Association ACLS Instructor. A skills test (Part 3) with an Instructor ensures skills proficiency. Upon successful completion of all three parts students receive their ACLS provider course completion card. This course is an ideal option for healthcare providers seeking an alternative to classroom training.

Part 1 is a Web-based, self-paced instructional program that uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision making and skills development. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning. After completing the cognitive portion of the course, students practice and test their skills with an AHA Instructor. Upon successful completion of the cognitive and skills tests, students receive a course completion card.

This program presents 10 interactive, adult, in-hospital cases to teach the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support treatment algorithms.

Unprepared or inexperienced students may require additional time to complete HeartCode ACLS Part 1. To be successful in any ACLS course, students should be able to identify ECG rhythms and should know pharmacology specific to cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies before beginning the course. It is strongly recommended that students review the ACLS course materials contained within the program and complete the Precourse Self-Assessment prior to attempting the patient cases.

HeartCode ACLS Parts 2 & 3 (Skills Test Only)

The HeartCode ACLS Parts 2 & 3 are the in-person skills-only component of the HeartCode ACLS course. Part 2 offers students the opportunity for one-on-one practice time with an American Heart Association ACLS Instructor. A skills test (Part 3) with an Instructor ensures skills proficiency. The program teaches students critical skills and knowledge needed to respond to and manage a first aid emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Content includes how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies.

The online program offers a flexible training option for busy learners. The online cognitive portion (Part1) allows students to complete learning at their own pace and convenience. To help students gain confidence in performing skills, Part 1 is combined with a hands-on skills session (Part2) where students have the opportunity for one-on-one practice time with an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor. Heartcode Heartsaver First Aid CPR/AED (Online and Skills Testing)

The Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED Online course is taught in a blended learning format. Students must complete the online portion, followed by the hands-on skills session conducted by an American Heart Association Training Center instructor. Students who successfully complete the online course and skills session, will receive a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course Completion card, valid for two years.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED provides students the highest quality training in the lifesaving skills of first aid, CPR, and use of an AED. This course empowers students to act with confidence in the event of an emergency at work, home, or in the community

The AHA’s Heartsaver courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs first aid and/or CPR training and a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. Heartsaver courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared to act in an emergency.

Heartcode Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR/AED (Online and Skills Testing)

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Online is a Web-based, self-directed program. The program teaches child care providers and others to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Content includes the Four Steps of First Aid and pediatric first aid skills such as finding the problem, stopping bleeding, bandaging and using an Epinephrine pen, as well as child CPR AED and infant CPR.

The online program offers a flexible training option for busy learners. The online cognitive portion (Part1) allows students to complete learning at their own pace and convenience. To help students gain confidence in performing skills, Part 1 is combined with a hands-on skills session (Part2) where students have the opportunity for one-on-one practice time with an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor. A skills test (Part 3) with an AHA BLS Instructor ensures skills proficiency. Upon successful completion of all three parts students receive their course completion card. This course is an ideal option for students seeking an alternative to classroom training.

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support, instructor-led Initial Course is for those who do not have a current PALS Provider card or for those whose card has expired. This classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

PALS Renewal

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Renewal Course is designed specifically for those with a current AHA PALS Provider card (There are no grace periods granted, per AHA). The PALS Renewal Course aims to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing/reviewing advanced-level healthcare providers (RN, RT, PA, NP, MD, Paramedics) to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high‐performance team dynamics and high‐quality individual skills. The course includes a series of case scenario practices with simulations that reinforce important concepts. 

COURSE FORMAT: 8 Hours. STUDENTS MUST ATTEND THE WHOLE CLASS.
